Home Office Makeover - Part 4 This part is all ab

Home Office Makeover - Part 4

This part is all about the accent wall, cabinet installation and lighting.

Create an accent wall using Stencil:
1. Use a spray adhesive to attach the stencil to the wall
2. Dip your brush in paint and wipe the excess on paper towel and paint in a
stippling motion
3. Remove the stencil, wipe the back, align the markers and stencil again
4. Clean the stencil after 5-6 uses before using it again

It was definitely time consuming, but I loved the results.
Hope you like it as much as do!

Cabinets:
1. Attach rails to studs in the wall or add anchors and screw them to the wall.
2. Hang the cabinets on rails provided
3. Screw adjacent cabinets for extra support and sturdiness

Lighting:
I found this beautiful light fixture online but it came with minimal instructions, but I able to finally figure it out.

1. Assemble the chandelier
2. Turn breaker off
3. Remove old light fixture and add new light fixture as per instructions
4. Turn breaker on

Part 3 of the Home Office Makeover!

You can get the cabinet bases from Ike for the cabinets, but I chose to build custom bases using MDF boards because the IKEA bases would have made my desk too high.

The normal height for a desk is usually between 29-32 inches.

I cut them to size, drilled pocket holes and built the bases and attached them using a brad nailer.

I bought the cheapest, plainest doors and drawers fronts and gave them a custom look by adding lattice trim around them.

Edge banding to the sides gives the drawers and doors a really neat finish.

I did a whole lot of experimenting on painting laminate cabinets and found the below process to be the best.

1. Sanding the doors and drawer front with a 150 and 220 grit sandpaper
2. Priming with Dixie Belle's Slick Stick primer
3. Spray painting the cabinets instead of using a brush and roller

I created and used a template for drilling the hardware holes and added beautiful gold hardware found on Amazon

1. Simply White - by Benjamin Moore for the walls. It's such a beautiful white!
2 Privilege Green - by Sherwin Willams for the bottom half of the two-toned cabinets. Another beautiful color 😊

All the cabinets are SEKTION cabinets from IKEA

The cabinets are of varying depths because that's how I designed them.

Following along to see how I build the cabinet bases and transformed the doors and drawers fronts to give them a custom look.
